Frequently
Asked Questions Regarding the Sale by Crown Castle International
of Spectrum Site Management to HighPointe Group.
Why Did the Sale Occur?
Crown Castle continues to focus its efforts on its core business in the US of owning and leasing space on its tower portfolio. HighPointe Group recognized a need to expand and enhance its third party portfolio of site-managed rooftops. Both parties found the transaction to be mutually beneficial as each group can now focus on their individual core strengths.
How is the Sale Characterized?
The respective companies, Spectrum Site Management and HighPointe Group have a diverse portfolio of managed rooftops with a variety of landlords. The landlord clients range from Archstone Smith (Apartment REIT) to JP Morgan Chase Bank.
Spectrum manages a number of tall sites that work well with HighPointe's broadcast experience and HighPointe manages a number of lower sites in both urban and rural areas that leverage Spectrum's tower experience in satisfying infill locations for the PCS and cellular carriers. The combination formed an excellent merger of sites with wireless customer focus.
HighPointe Group has purchased 100% of the stock of Spectrum Site Management and HighPointe Group will continue to operate the two companies independently.
Who's HighPointe?
HighPointe was formally started in 1999 and incorporated in 2000. The company was formed in response to the lack of customer care being provided to landlords by the major players in the rooftop management sector. As the financial turmoil in the telecom and services sector worsened over the last three (3) years, the need for a company to focus on rooftops and also provide superior customer service was apparent.
The founding members of HighPointe have extensive experience in real estate, telecommunications, data center operations and broadcasting. The goal of the company is to bring this expertise together in an outsourcing model focused on the leasing and management of wireless and broadcast "signals" from all rooftop locations. One example of our depth and experience is the Director of Engineering, Jeff Svenningsen. Jeff was the former Manager of Telecommunications and Rooftop Operations at the World Trade Center in New York.
How Will the Customers of Spectrum and HighPointe Benefit?
Customers will benefit from a single focus of generating income from rooftop sites with a proactive management style and service philosophy. The companies are not in the business of owning towers or rooftops, nor will they ever pose a conflict to our landlord and carrier clients.
How will Carrier's Benefit?
Both Spectrum and HighPointe are determined to utilize a single path, from the original license application to the final equipment installation, inspection and approval. On a regular basis, our Account Executives will meet with the carrier customers and update every site acquisition specialist and/or various engineering companies, performing site acquisition services for carriers, with current site information
How Many Rooftops or Sites Do the Combined Companies Manage?
Over 4,000 sites with a concentration of tall sites in the major MSA's of San Francisco, San Diego, Phoenix, Houston, New Orleans, Nashville, Pittsburgh and New York. The mid and low height sites are concentrated around the five boroughs of New York and most major MSA's across the country. The Best Western portfolio also adds a diverse base of locations along major highways and in rural areas.
How Many Carrier and Broadcasting Customers Do the Companies Have at the Moment?
In addition to all the major cellular and PCS carriers, both Spectrum and HighPointe have multiple two-way and broadcasting clients on most of the tall sites located across the country.
What is the forecast for HighPointe and Spectrum?
The combined companies are committed to ensuring a smooth transition. It is important that the current customer base of both companies continue to receive the attention they expect and deserve. All current carrier projects will be completed in a timely fashion and new license applications will be processed as usual.
Within the industry, HighPointe and Spectrum will look for appropriate opportunities to lead the industry by providing an outsourcing/third party rooftop management platform. The HighPointe/Spectrum management team believes that tower companies will continue to focus attention on their tower assets and that building landlords will look to associate with companies singularly focused on developing site management services by delivering rooftops. HighPointe/Spectrum intend to lead that focus for the benefit of both landlords, carriers and broadcasters. |
